The Vision of Dr G D James
Asia Evangelistic Fellowship (AEF) founded in 1960 by Dr G D James, is an indigenous and interdenominational faith mission dedicated to the task of evangelism and pioneer missions.
The AEF mobilizes and equips national evangelists and missionaries in Asian countries to reach out to their own people groups.
AEF believes in co-operating with churches and other missionary agencies in its task of evangelizing Asia and continually identifies and develops new ministries, particularly to unreached people groups.
The Call
The vision of reaching out to Asians came to Dr G. D. James in 1960 when he was recuperating in a hospital bed. He had a burden that the Lord was calling Asians to missionary service after serving as an itinerant evangelist for 22 years in India , Malaysia (then known as Malaya) and Singapore. The problem was that there was then no interdenominational mission which accepted Asian missionaries to be part of the Great Commission. Dr James writes of that call "...one night, in a clear way, the Lord brought before me a vision in which I saw millions of people carelessly hastening to a lost eternity. The Lord seemed to ask me in lucid language , who will go and share the gospel with these millions? How many people can you individually reach in your brief life span? Why don't you multiply your ministry by taking in and training dedicated young people?" This Dr James did, as he mobilized many young Christian workers and trained them in evangelism and mission.
The mission which started in Singapore soon spread to Malaysia, Indonesia and India.
AEF International today
Today AEF International is one of the largest indigenous missions in Asia and has more than 200 national missionaries and associates serving in nine fields. Countries in which AEF International has an ongoing work includes Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Nepal, Myanmar, Philippines and India. AEF's ministry thrust continues to be evangelism and missions.
